Cobasys has announced the introduction of a complete line of advanced nickel metal hydride (NiMH) based NiMHax® Battery Packs for all transportation applications. The NiMHax packs range from 144 volts and 30 kW for light duty automotive applications to 672 volts and 280 kW for large commercial applications (trucks and buses). The NiMHax standard pack solutions are designed to be plug-and-play units which include battery management systems (BMS), thermal management, hardware, software, packaging and all components necessary to completely integrate these packs into hybrid vehicle applications.
Scott Lindholm, Vice President of Transportation Sales, stated that "The NiMHax line of battery packs has been well accepted in the marketplace. Cobasys is working with many industry leading transportation companies to evaluate hybrid solutions in the automotive, bus, truck, heavy duty and military markets. Based upon the most frequently requested voltage and power specifications in the industry, the best selling packs have been the NiMHax 288-60 (288 volts, 60kW) and 336-70 (336 volts, 70kW). Pack sales to automotive and commercial customers have proven the ability of Cobasys' NiMHax battery systems to perform well in a variety of applications while providing a cost effective solution to customers in the rapidly expanding hybrid vehicle market. The NiMHax packs also offer customers the ability to fine tune their hybrid strategy through the use of a standard pack solution before initiating a customized pack development with the Cobasys engineering team."
Gary Absher, Vice President of Product Development, commented "by developing this line of standard NiMHax packs, Cobasys can offer an off-the-shelf solution to most any transportation application, from light duty vehicles to large commercial equipment. These off-the-shelf solutions are a cost effective way for customers to purchase high performance NiMH battery packs without the high costs incurred for special pack development and integration."
The NiMHax packs are designed to be liquid cooled which offers packaging and thermal management advantages over air cooling. Liquid cooling also allows the packs to be mounted in many different locations inside or outside the vehicle since large air ducting is not needed to provide battery cooling. The compact size and low weight of the NiMHax packs offer tremendous power, capacity, packaging, size, weight and life advantages over traditional lead acid packs.
Jim Greiwe, Vice President of Manufacturing, confirmed that "the modules for the new NiMHax packs are produced at Cobasys' 170,000 sq. ft. facility in Springboro, OH, which is QS-9000 and ISO 14000 certified. Cobasys is proud to offer this new NiMHax line of hybrid packs, made in the USA, to offer fuel economy and environmental benefits to customers in all types of transportation markets."
Cobasys designs and manufactures advanced NiMH battery system solutions for transportation, including Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), Electric Vehicles (EV) and 42 volt applications in addition to Stationary Back-Up power supply systems for large Uninterruptible Power Supply systems (UPS), Telecom and Distributed Generation requirements.
